It's come to my attention that we lost an old friend recently. Jon Thomas (JT...aka Hawk, Faetal, Finster amoungst others) passed into the night, leaving a sister and fiancee. My prayers are with his family. Please feel free to share moments here, good and bad. He will be missed!

It's really shocking to hear of his passing. Hawk is one of those people I have vivid memories with on Halberd.
Before I joined Pirates, I would occasionaly try to jump him on my dark paladin (lvl 50 or so Dual-UA) with full valor, but he would always spank me because I would never take into account that he always had 5-12 levels of stamina over me and cruised around with T5 chest/helm. I don't think I ever ended up winning one of those duels, but he would pretty nice about it and would often drop me off at temple because he felt sorry for me...
I joined Pirates back when BoBo theClown was really active, but honestly don't remember all of the people who were active when I joined. I remember we had a teamspeak or ventrillo server at some point that we would all sign on to. (Primarily Faetal, eViLShRek, JabberWocky, Sabbs, Grayson, Staby Gnome, Grimm ocasionally etc...) I spent lots of nights chatting with JT (when he played a lot on Faetal). Back then the guilds were very loosely organized... I think Fist of the Ogre was the only other guild that had the same level of organization that we did. It was scary how fast we could mobilize to punish someone or a guild who did something wrong.
We had a standing rule that if you capped the ToU slime party, we would wipe the entire zone. That got us into numerous guild wars (with Fist, Vory Bratva, INFERNO, Strus lul)
I don't have a lot of screenshots from that time, because my hard drive died on me. I recovered some that are buried somewhere, so I might go see if I can find them on my desktop harddrive later.
RIP though JT, I'm glad you were able to get back into music these past few years.

He will be truly missed. I always hoped to play with him again in an online realm! I am sorry (but not that sorry!) to post a kill shot - the Vor y Bratva sure loved being hunted by Faetal, and loved hunting him back in large and raucous packs

I received word of his passing from Mike (Icon from Fist of the Ogre) the day after it happened. I was in shock for some time and it has taken me awhile to really process it. Hawk and I were very close. I'm sure many of you non-Pirates spent many evenings fighting with, running from or hiding from the two of us 🤣 🤣 🤣
I no longer have my old email address and could not recover my moderator account here on the forum (HulkSmash), but I wanted to get in here and say my piece on this.
I attempted to contact his fiance to find out what happened, but never got a response. I would at least like to know what happened. He was a close friend for many years even after RoE shut down. Even when Hawk and I both had stopped gaming completely, we still kept in touch and discussed music (Hawk was a guitar teacher and we spent many hours on Skype playing music together). He was just as passionate about guitar as he was gaming.
The last we had spoken was around the end of 2017 and Hawk had texted me to do what he called a "Shrek Check" to make sure I was doing okay LoL.
I feel like a wrestler who has lost his tag team partner of 15 years. We knew each other so we'll, we didn't even have to discuss battle strategy in ANY MMO we played together. A simple "you know what to do" was enough for us to communicate our plans and lay waste to anything in our path. Even when we all went to play WoW, I carried on that tradition by steamrolling the hell out of Alliance players with my Orc Warrior any chance I got!
I've been through a lot over the years, as I'm sure many of you have, both good and bad. This one really struck a blow to me. I had three friends whom I was closer to than anyone else; one passed away in 2010, then one went missing over a year ago and is presumed dead, then Hawk's passing.
It makes me feel very alone in this world. I have lost my three closest friends in this world and it has been enough to make me take off the armor and put down the weapons. Shrek is officially retiring. I just can't bring myself to return to Vormis or Azeroth without Hawk...
😢
