Well, I haven't been around on the forums much but I see lots of banter back and forth between factions of people. I'm not really at liberty to say much on the topic, since I know very little, but what I can say is a lot of my friends seem to be pretty pissed off about the whole "sanitation" of the RoE community.
While most of the events transpired, I was absent from the game. I believe at the time I was playing WoW. I dunno exactly what all happened, but from what I read and hear, 99% of our guild got perma-banned from the game by the owners.
I know everyone is gonna tell me not to beat a dead horse... but I say fuck it, the dead horse can't kick me back so I'll beat it all day long! Now, while I don't know exactly who struck the first blow or how things even transpired, I can say that our guild did more for the RoE community than anyone else did at the time. Back when we didn't see an update for over a year, Pirate was holding NON-GM SPONSORED EVENTS, giving out prizes from OUR OWN VAULTS to help improve the community by sharing our wealth and giving the players something fun to do that was out of the ordinary.
I do understand that Phoenix is a general play server with a "family-friendly" atmosphere and they want to keep it that way. But, that does NOT mean players should be perma-banned because they "might" cause problems in the future, and let's face it guys, that's pretty much what it was. They seen our behavior on Halberd/Nemesis and they know what type of chaos we are capable of creating. I'm guessing the only reason I slipped through the cracks and didn't catch the banhammer was because I was inactive at the time and not causing problems during the "changes" going on in the community.
I do still actively play on Phoenix. I don't cause trouble like I used to, but considering the fact that it's not an open PvP server it's kind of hard for me to cause trouble lol. I can say I have had no problems with the staff whatsoever since I've been back. Sabs has had one issue since she's been back. She was perma-banned for "profanity" when she does not even recall using any profanity, especially on an open channel. After thinking back on it, she said "shit" in party chat because she messed up on a pull. Apparently whoever she was partied with was a staff member on a play character or some asshole who reported her for it. Either way, after getting a GM to review it, they said they've never heard of ANYONE getting a perma-ban for profanity, most the time they just get a mute or at most a short suspension for recurring offenses after being warned and muted. Needless to say, the staff member she spoke to deemed it an unjust ban and had it lifted.
I only wish the same could be done for the rest of my friends. I miss the company of you all and I really miss our teamwork and the way we always helped each other out with anything and everything. I have yet to see any other guild as tightly-knit, cohesive, and cooperative as we were. I do have two or three friends on Phoenix who have helped me acquire most of my old items, as well as some newer ones I've never had before. I've been playing actively again for about a month or a little more and have 3 of my chars fully geared up again. It also makes me feel good that some still remember me and ask for build advice, help leveling, or PvP tips and tactics.
Please, before any of you ream my ass for still playing, just know these three things:
1. I have not donated to the game in about two years, nor do I intend to ever donate again until there is a shift in power and I know my money will not be going to the current powers-that-be.
2. I DO NOT condone what the owners did to the rest of you guys. While I do not know all the facts and details about everything, I can say that some of the things I read posted by Dekker, Cyr3n, as well as some of the players... and the one thing I CAN say for certain is the owners DID NOT act in a professional manner, and neither did the players. I believe staff should act in a more professional manner than the players. The staff should know at some point they will have to deal with irate players/customers and should be prepared for that situation, and be able to handle it from a non-aggressive standpoint. What they SHOULD NOT do is jump the gun and start handing out bans like candy to kids in Halloween costumes.
3. Just because I still play does not mean I side with, support, or endorse ANYONE besides myself and my friends. The only reasons I still play is because I'm well known in the community, I enjoy the game and am currently having fun experiencing the new content, and the game is FREE, which is perfect for my broke-ass budget lol.
I'd love to hear from you guys. Comments, suggestions, opinions etc ALL WELCOME.
